I’ve tutored IB Chemistry for eight years, with most of my students taking HL. I spend a lot of time on stoichiometry, energetics and equilibrium because small gaps there show up everywhere else. Lessons are usually a mix of worked examples, past paper marking and IA planning. I’m quite particular about units and sig figs, but students tend to thank me for that later. Hi, I’m a chemistry tutor who mainly works with IB students who are fine with the theory but get stuck when the questions become wordy. I’ve been tutoring online for five years and my favourite sections to teach are bonding, acids and bases, and organic reaction pathways. Organic chemistry is the area I get asked about most, especially mechanisms and spectroscopy, but I also work a lot on Paper 1 speed and Paper 2 explanations. I don’t try to cover everything at once. We fix one topic properly, then connect it to the rest of the course. Students often come to me near mocks when the course feels too wide.
